Olaplex works great on hair extensions!
Olaplex is highly effective when working on 100% human hair extensions. Remember that a company can legally label extensions 100% Human Hair as long as they contain at least 80% human hair. Also, some extensions have a keratin-like coating on them and can be colored with textile dyes, which can prevent Olaplex from being fully effective. Always do a test strand when working with extensions as results vary due to unknown prior color processes.
When using Olaplex on human hair extensions, it is best to avoid the base when applying a treatment. As Olaplex No. 2 is cream based, this can cause slippage so take normal precautions. We recommend applying Olaplex No. 2 mid shaft to ends. You may also use diluted No.1 as a treatment if concerned with use of cream form.
If doing an Olaplex treatment prior to extension application, simply shampoo twice thoroughly to remove any residue.
For Lightening Extensions:
Use 1/8 oz (3.75ml) Olaplex No.1 per 1/2 ounce scoop of lightener for Balayage.
Make sure to mix your bleach and developer before adding Olaplex.
The amount of Olaplex used in Balayage varies depending on the volume of developer being used with your Balayage. If the highest volume of lightener you are using is 40vol. please note that with Olaplex you are working with a 30vol. as a result. Heat may be used at your own discretion. You may also add 1/16oz No. 1 for faster lift if working within time constraints.
*On a side note: It is common knowledge that extensions are pre-dyed from the manufacturer. Lightening extensions, with or without Olaplex, means that you are dealing unpredictable dyes, therefore results can vary.
Stand Alone Treatment for Extensions:
Mix 1/2 oz (15ml) of No.1 Bond Multiplier with 3 oz (90ml) of water in an applicator bottle. Apply from roots to ends. Saturate hair and comb through. Leave on for 5 or more minutes.
Without rinsing, apply a generous amount of No.2 Bond Perfector from mid shaft through ends, and comb through once. Avoiding the base of the extensions, as you normally would. Leave on for a minimum of 10 or more minutes. Rinse, shampoo, and condition.
